Growcer partners with Inuit-owned enterprises and Canadian Space Agency to co-develop CEA unit

Growing food on the Moon and growing food in Nunavut have more in common than you might think.

We're proud to share that the Canadian Space Agency has awarded Growcer a contract to co-develop a concept for a deployable controlled environment agriculture unit. We'll be doing this work alongside Arctic Fresh Group and Niksik, Inuit-owned enterprises in Nunavut.

Astronauts preparing to live and work on the Moon would eventually need to produce their own food 400,000 km from Earth, in an environment as extreme as any we know. Inuit communities have been meeting similar challenges for generations - sustaining lifestyles in some of the planet’s most challenging conditions. That's why this design will be informed by Inuit knowledge and grounded in the realities of life in the North.

The same innovation that supports food production in deep space can strengthen access to fresh, nutritious food in remote northern communities right here on Earth. That's the future we're building toward, together.
