Get Started

Get growing and stay growing.

What Do You Need to Get Started?

Every successful food project starts with four key building blocks that make up the project success framework.

It’s what we’ve identified as the main ingredients in a thriving local food project after a decade of working with communities.

Plus, Growcer helps you navigate each one.

  • Implementation: The “how” of your project, from where you put your farm, how you connect it to power and water, and if you need any additional permits.

  • Operations: The “who” of your project, from staffing to volunteers, to building out workforce development programs or classroom curriculum.

  • Financing: The “numbers” of your project, from a detailed breakdown of project costs to connecting you with grant or funding opportunities to applying for Growcer Fund.

  • Distribution: The “where” of what you’ll grow which is a clear plan for where your food will go and who it will serve.

No project looks the same and we work alongside you to figure out the missing pieces. Only have one pillar figured out? Get unstuck by starting the conversation.

You’re not alone. Many people feel stuck when they only have one of these questions answered, but we’ve worked with communities to find the missing puzzle pieces and get their project going time and time again. It’s possible for you too.

  • Depending on who you are, there are many funding opportunities that support local food projects or opt for pay-as-you-grow which gets you growing for less than $1,000 per week.

Did you know? The Funding Mobilization Package gives you a dedicated funding strategist who learns your community, your goals, and your constraints, then builds a strategy that combines government grants, private foundations, regional sponsors, and philanthropic funders into a plan that works for your project. • Growing food is only one of the ways the Growcer network use their farms to make an impact. ‘Namgis Business Development Corp worked with Growcer to secure a grant to host three Rootcamps to train B.C. residents on indoor agriculture. Volunteers of America Upstate New York runs a workforce development program with local partner organizations. The Altario School incorporates their two farms into their curriculum and agriculture academy.

  • From the cost of electricity to how much you want to sell your greens for, there’s a few numbers you need to get familiar with before pitching the project.
